Mujib Borsho celebration: Modi, Sonia, Pranab confirm attendance

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Indian Congress Party President Sonia Gandhi, former Indian President Pranab Mukherjee and Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck among other world leaders, have so far confirmed their presence in different events during 'Mujib Borsho' to mark Bangabandhu's birth centenary.

Top officials of foreign affairs ministry yesterday informed this to a parliamentary standing committee meeting.

The meeting of the parliamentary standing committee on foreign affairs was held at the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban with Awami League MP Muhammad Faruk Khan in the chair.

So far, 18 distinguished world leaders and personalities have confirmed their presence during 'Mujib Borsho' celebration which will kick off on March 17.

Talking to The Daily Star, Faruk Khan said Indian PM Narendra Modi and Bhutanese King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, among others, have confirmed their presence at the inaugural ceremony of 'Mujib Borsho' on March 17.

Pranab Mukherjee, several MPs of UK and Vietnam parliament, among other distinguished leaders, will attend the two-day long special session of Bangladesh Parliament scheduled to start from March 22, meeting sources said.

Besides, prime ministers of Australia, Italy and Canada might also visit Bangladesh during 'Mujib Borsho', meeting sources said.

Bangladesh will celebrate 'Mujib Borsho' from March 17, 2020, to March 26, 2021, through various programmes marking the birth centenary of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen, committee members -- Golam Faruk Khandakar Prince,                Abdul Majid Khan, Habibe Millat, Nahim Razzaq, Kazi Nabil Ahmed, Nizam Uddin Jalil, among others, participated in the meeting.
