EWU Law Department organises 3rd Intra-Department Moot Court Competition 2022

Department of Law, East West University organised the 3rd Intra-Department Moot Court Competition, 2022 from 25-27th November 2022. A total of 12 teams from different semesters participated in this competition. The inaugural ceremony of the competition was held on 25th November 2022 with the presence of the guest of honor, Dr. Khaled Hamid Chowdhury, Bar-at-Law, Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh, and Head of Laws in London College of Legal Studies (South). He shed light on the importance of such events for Law students as it is the sole platform for them to engage in fictitious problems which are like real-life incidents, delve into them to hone their research skills, drafting skills, speaking skills, court manners, and etiquettes, etc.

The Final Round took place on 26th November 2022. It was adjudicated with a bench of three judges, namely Fawzia Karim Firoze, Head of Chamber, Fawzia Karim & Associates, Dr. Rumana Islam, Commissioner, Bangladesh Securities & Exchange Commission (BSEC), and Dr. Nabaat Tasnima Mahbub, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, East West University.

After two days of intense mooting, a team comprising Saima Haque Nisa, Aysha Rahmat, and Mahmudul Hasan emerged victorious and achieved the champion trophy, and a team of Tanzila Islam, Marufa Oyahid, & Rahanuma Nubain Urmi became the runners-up and won the Best Memorial Award. Sabbir Ahmmad and Musaddik Ahmed respectively earned the badge of the Best Advocate and the Best Researcher awards. A team consisting of Jubayer Hossen, Farzana Alam Farin, & Suraiya Yeasmin Ayshi was awarded the Spirit of the Moot.

The closing eeremony started with the opening remarks of Nadia Rahaman, Lecturer and Convener, Moot Court Committee, Department of Law, EWU on 27th November 2022. Mr. Justice Ahmed Sohel, Honorable Judge, High Court Division, Supreme of Bangladesh, graced the ceremony as the guest of honor and handed over the awards to the participants. The competition ended with the speech of Dr. Md. Mehedi Hassan, Assistant Professor and Chair, Dept of Law, East West University. He expressed his gratitude towards the guest and appreciated the Moot Court committee comprising of Nadia Rahaman, Shamshad Bashar, Ali Mashraf, and Farzana Rifat Siddique, Lecturer, Department of Law, EWU along with all the volunteers and participants for making the competition successful.
