NORTH SOUTH UNIVERSITY ORGANISES UNDERGRADUTE LAW SYMPOSIUM

The Department of Law, North South University in order to create co-curricular opportunities for the law students and emphasise on the importance of legal research had recently organised an Undergraduate Law Symposium Fall 2021. This event was held on the 23rd December, 2021 but the paper submission started from one month prior to the event.

Law students from both public and private universities and from all across the country had submitted their research paper on various topics of law. The topics ranged from criminal law, to civil law, to alterative dispute resolution and to even some parts of public international law. Around 20 paper submissions were received and these papers were evaluated by a committee consisting of the faculty from the Department of Law, North South University. Finally, five papers were shortlisted to be presented in front of our prestigious panel of judges. The judges panel included Professor Dr. Sarkar Ali Akkas, Dean, Faculty of Law, Jagannath University, Mr. Mohammad Golam Sarwar, Assistant Professor, Department of Law, University of Dhaka and Mr. Md. Mostafa Hossain, Assistant Professor, School of Law, Brac University. The judges were, quite impressed by the presentations given by the five short-listed finalists and they had constantly asked them inquisitive questions in regards to their presentation. The event was also graced by the chief guest, Professor Dr. Abdur Rob Khan, Dean School of Humanities and Social Sciences, North South University. The five shortlisted participants were Sayere Nazabi Sayem, Mohammad Minhazur Rahman Sabit, Anika Anjum Meher, Nadim Zawad Akil and Md. Rakibul Hasan Ron.

The top 3 participants were Md. Rakibul Hasan Roni from Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) was crowned the Champion, Mohammad Minhazur Rahman Sabit who became the 1st Runner Up Jahangirnagar University and Anika Anjum Meher from Brac University who became the 2nd Runner Up. They received crests, certificates and a token amount of prize money for becoming the Champion, 1st Runner Up and 2nd Runner Up of Undergraduate Law Symposium Fall 2021. The introductory remarks of the session was given by Dr. Md. Rizwanul Islam, Professor & Chair of Department of Law, North South University. Mrs. Nasmin Jabin Noor, Senior Lecturer, Department of Law, North South University gave the vote of thanks to the participants, winners and the distinguished guests. Gianni Mahsina Haque, Undergraduate Teaching Assistant, Department of Law served as the Master of Ceremony for this session. The session took place in the Moot Court Room of North South University and was broadcast live through the Facebook page of Department of Law. A lot of law students of the department were presented during the session as observers. The Department Chair had also expressed his gratitude to the Teaching Assistants of the Department of Law and wished to organise programs such as this in the near future, on a regular basis.
