Why don’t people like you?

It's a diverse world and no two people are alike. As viewpoints differ, some gel together seamlessly while others clash and cause friction. This is expected, and quite natural. However, what if you find that you are unable to befriend anyone at all, and that everyone shuns you from their circle. It might be time for some introspection.

Do you talk too much?

Being vivacious and bubbly are great traits to have, but hogging the conversation completely can turn people off. Everyone deserves a chance to put their views across and it cannot happen if only one person is dominating the talk.

Do you complain too much?

We all have things to complain about — traffic, job, colleague, and so on. However, constant whining can be dampening company. People enjoy being around those who bring joy and mirth in conversations. If you find yourself erring to the former state, consciously try to shift your thoughts to a more positive direction.

Do you talk badly of others?

Everyone enjoys some juicy gossip now and again. However, talking badly about each person you know is a major red flag for most people. It could make them distrust you and feel unsafe around you.

Do you interrupt others?

Most people want to be heard when they speak, which is why cutting into a conversation is not polite. Whether you agree with someone's thoughts or not, it is common courtesy to wait until they are finished before putting your viewpoint across.

Are you a know-it-all?

Everyone loves to be around confident people. The same cannot be said about arrogant folks or those who think they know anything. Belief superiority turns people off and if you're someone who feels compelled to give advice or suggestions, especially on topics you know nothing about, it may be time to re-evaluate this habit.

Are you a show-off?

Constant bragging can give people a negative idea about you. Not just about the things you own, but bragging about your lifestyle, your achievements, etc., can also push people away. Instead, embrace humility and keep the high and mighty attitude on the down low.

Are you a control freak?

Are you always trying to plan things for people and then wanting them to follow it to the T? It might be coming from a place of love but others will want their way from time to time and it's important to compromise for them. If you constantly try to micromanage everything, it can put a damper on your friendships.

Are you quick to blame?

Accepting responsibility for your mistakes shows integrity and builds character. Sometimes, people are not as upset about your mistake as they are about your slyness and your habit of shifting your share of the blame onto others, because whether you realise it or not, it's a transparent habit.

Are you judgemental?

No two people will think or act the same way and it is all too easy to judge someone who does not think like us. The live-and-let-live attitude however, is very important in today's world and it comes with a lot of practice. In the end though, it's worth it.
