After an indefinite travel ban in Ruma and Rowangchhari upazilas, Bandarban district administration has now issued a notification imposing indefinite travel ban on Thanchi.

Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Yasmin Parvin Tibriji signed a public notice this afternoon confirming the ban.

The decision has been taken considering the safety of tourists, the notice added.

On October 17, 2022, the first travel ban was imposed for tourists in Ruma and Rowangchhari upazilas. Later, Thanchi and Alikadam upazilas were included in the next phases of the travel ban.

On December 11, 2022, the district administration issued another notification, exempting Thanchi from the ban. But in the notice, the administration imposed an indefinite travel ban on domestic and foreign tourists in Ruma and Rowangchhari upazilas, citing security reasons for tourists traveling in the hills in the wake of a joint operation by Rab and Bangladesh Army against the arms training and militant activities of the armed terrorist organisation KNF and the local militant organisation Jama'atul Ansar Fil Hindal Sharqiya.
