Sourcing fuel at a low rate biggest challenge for aviation industry

Says Caab chairman

Bangladesh's aviation sector is facing challenges due to the ongoing global crisis especially in terms of sourcing fuel at low rates, Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (Caab) Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman said today.

"Getting fuel at a cheap rate is the biggest challenge. The number of flights is increasing every year, so providing low-cost fuel is the biggest challenge at the moment," he said.

The Caab boss said this while presenting a keynote paper at a seminar in the city's Bangabandhu International Conference Centre.

A seminar titled "Aviation and Tourism opportunity: Connecting Bangladesh to the World," was organised by the Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB) as part of a three-day long International Tourism Fair that will end tomorrow.

Other major hurdles plaguing Bangladesh's aviation sector includes increasing the capacity of the airport and improving the navigation and communication system, the Caab chairman added.

Mafidur also said the Russia-Ukraine war also has a negative impact on the aviation sector.

It is also difficult to keep up with the latest technology and it is especially important as the aviation industry is extremely dependent on technology.

Secretary, Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Mokammel Hossain, ATAB President SN Manjur Morshed Mahbub, Secretary General Abdus Salam Aref, Public Relations Secretary Atiqur Rahman, among others were present at the event.
