When we think of vacations, we usually think of beaches and mountains. What skips our minds most of the time are the wonderous deserts. We often forget the enticing and magnificent landscapes that can be serene, wild and even mysterious. Desert safaris can be very hectic but definitely worth it if you are someone who is up for adventures. Here are 5 deserts you should definitely keep in mind when planning your next vacation.

The Sahara Desert

The Sahara Desert is probably the first one that comes to mind when we think of deserts. Keeping in mind that it is the hottest desert in the world, you might want to visit The Sahara Desert in spring or autumn when the weather is a little breathable. The desert safari consists of a drive over sand dunes and while it may feel like the car might crash any moment, that is also the fun of it. The scorching heat may be a little unappealing but just the grandness of the place will leave you awe-struck.

The Gobi Desert

The Mongolian Gobi Desert is the largest in Asia and can be a part of your next trip to China. The Gobi Desert is a little different from others as it is less sandy and more covered in rocks. The Gobi Desert consists of 33 small deserts, each being known for their own immaculate landscape. "The Galbiin Gobi" is one of the deserts that you must visit if you are there. The Mars-like red soil and the camels will take your breath away. It is also said that there is a sailing stone that leaves a trace of smooth land without any human intervention and that is definitely something one would like to see.

The Thar Desert

If you do not want to travel too far but still experience a desert holiday, Thar Desert is just the place for you. The great Indian Desert is hot and humid but do not let that stop you from visiting. The desert tour will not only take you through the desert, where you may see the rare blue bull and will be able to enjoy peeks of the Rajasthani culture. The Thar desert tour can be a very adventurous one as you can see mountains, camels, sand dunes and much more. Make sure you book a trip for at least two days as one day is just not enough.

Black and White Desert

If you are in Egypt, do not miss the chance to go and visit the black and white desert. As the name suggests, the desert is covered with black sand in some parts and white in others. Beautiful natural rock formations cover the place and you will even find statues of sphinx, people, and other random things here abandoned from years ago, making it feel like a trip to a museum as well. While it cannot be a day trip Cairo, it should definitely be on your Egypt itinerary.

The Namib Desert

Believed to be the oldest desert in the world, the rather small but grand desert has a lot to offer. Being a coastal desert, the experience you will have here is not the same as other deserts. The skeleton coast, formed from multiple shipwrecks caused by the fog is a sight to be seen. There is also an immense wildlife that can be seen in this desert, including elephants. You can even spot some fur seals if you are lucky. The red dunes of the desert should not go unmentioned as well since it can even be up to 350m high. All in all, The Namib Desert will give you an experience no other desert will.
