Several family members said they hoped that the High Court would uphold the lower court verdict that sentenced death for 26 accused. But the penalty of 11 accused was commuted to life terms, they said.

"I am personally unhappy with the verdict. I think all the victims' family members will feel the same," Shahidul Islam alias Shahid Chairman, father-in-law of Nazrul Islam, one of the seven victims, told The Daily Star.

"We will knock at the door of the attorney general to know the procedure of filing a petition seeking review of the verdict," he added.
