1 dead in CNG-pickup collision in Narsingdi

The driver of a CNG-run auto-rickshaw died and the passenger was injured in a head-on collision between the vehicle and a pickup truck at Raipura upazila in Narsingdi this morning.

The deceased was identified as Khorshed Mia, 45, the auto-rickshaw driver, reports our local correspondent.

Sub-Inspector Nur of Bhairab Highway Police Station said the Baraicha-bound CNG-run auto-rickshaw coming from Bhairab collided head-on with a pickup truck in front of Mahmudabad Government Primary School in Mirzapur union on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway around 7:30am .

The auto-rickshaw driver died on the spot, said the SI, adding that one passenger of the auto-rickshaw was critically injured. The injured could not be identified immediately as locals rescued him and took him to Bhairab Upazila Health Complex.

"On information, we recovered the body of the driver from the spot. Two vehicles have been seized and taken into police custody. The driver of the pickup fled after the accident," the SI added.
