As Chittagong Medical College Hospital's designated burn unit ran out of space, its gynaecology ward has been turned into a burnt unit for providing treatment to those injured in the fire and subsequent explosions at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda upazila.

CMCH's Assistant Registrar Liton Kumar Palit made the announcement around 12:30pm today.

He said the gynae ward (number 31) has been converted into a burn unit as there is no space in the burn unit (ward number 36).

A total of 47 burn patients are currently being treated in the two wards, he added.

Patients of the gynae ward have been shifted to other wards, he added.

The death toll in the fire and explosions has gone up to 37 while hundreds of people, including police and fire service personnel sustained burn injuries in the incident.

Confirming the development, ASI Alauddin of Chittagong Medical College Hospital's police outpost said, so far 37 bodies have been brought to CMCH.
