Ctg Depot fire: Another victim dies, death toll now 47

Another victim of the fire at BM Container Depot in Chattogram's Sitakunda upazila succumbed to his injuries in a private hospital today (June 12, 2022).

With the victim, Nurul Quader (22), the death toll in the fire incident reached 47, our Chattogram staff correspondent reports.

He died at the intensive care unit (ICU) of Parkview Hospital around 1:30pm, said Humayun Kabir, deputy general manager of the hospital.

Nurul sustained severe burn injuries in the blast and was admitted to the general unit on June 4 night. As his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to ICU unit with life support, according to the hospital authority.

The body will be handed over to police for further legal procedure.

Earlier around 3:00am today, firefighter Gausul Azam died while being treated at the ICU of Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery in Dhaka, said the institute's Resident Surgeon SM Aiyub Hossain.

Gausul (22) sustained critical injures at the BM Container Depot fire and was flown to Dhaka from Chattogram with 70 percent burns on his body, Aiyub said.

With Gausul, at least 10 firefighters died in the fire while three others are still missing, according to fire service officials.

Hailing from Jashore, Gausul joined the fire service in 2018. He left behind his wife and a six-month old baby boy.

The fire broke out at BM Container Depot in Chattogram on June 4.
