Dhaka-Mawa expressway: 2 die as microbus ploughs into crowd

Two people, including a traffic policeman, were killed and two injured in a road accident on Dhaka-Mawa highway in Srinagar upazila of Munshiganj this morning.

According to police and witnesses, a microbus hit a woman, who was waiting for a bus on a footpath, at an intersection adjacent to Padma Bridge North Police Station around 10:00am.

A traffic policeman, Md Motaleb, was having tea at a nearby stall during the accident. He also got injured as the speeding vehicle hit him.

Two other individuals sustained injuries due to the accident.

The unidentified woman died on the spot while Motaleb was declared dead after being taken to local upazila health complex.

Kamlesh Bagchi, in-charge of emergency unit at Srinagar Upazila Health Complex, said, "Three injured people were brought to the health complex and one of them died."

Confirming the accident, Munshiganj Traffic Police TI (Finance and Administration) Bajlul Rahman said they seized the vehicle but the driver fled away.
