Engineer of Bangabandhu Rail Bridge injured in train accident, dies

An engineer of the under construction Bangabandhu Rail Bridge over the Jamuna River was died last night (July 2, 2022)  after being hit by a Jamalpur-bound train at Biaramarua area in Kalihati upazila of Tangail yesterday afternoon.

The deceased Jaber Khan Jony (24) of Kharshila village of the upazila, was working as a site engineer of Toma Construction Company, a contractor employed in Bangabandhu Railway Bridge, reports our Tangail correspondent quoting his cousin Bin Jayed.

Jayed, also a colleague of the victim said Jaber was talking on his mobile phone while walking on the rail track at Biaramarua area of the upazila yesterday afternoon.

At the time, a Jamalpur bound Dhaleswari Express hit him, leaving him critically injured, he said.

Locals rescued him and sent him to Tangail General Hospital from where he was referred to Dhaka for better treatment.

He died at around 9:00pm on the way to Dhaka, added Jayed.

After being informed, police visited the spot, Md Saqlain, assistant sub-inspector of Tangail Railway Police Outpost said when contacted.
