Hit by bike, JU student fighting for life at ICU

A student of Jahangirnagar University suffered a severe blow to the head after a motorcycle hit him on the campus around 8:30pm yesterday.

Zahid Hasan, a fresher at the Department of Journalism and Media Studies, was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit of Enam Medical College Hospital.

At least eight students witnessed the accident.

Zahid, who came to the campus just two days ago from his home in Bogura, was crossing a road near Mowlana Bhasani Hall. The motorcycle hit him from behind, said a witness.

"He received serious injuries to his head. He was rushed to the medical facility on the campus immediately," he said.

Later, he was referred to Enam Medical College Hospital.

Contacted, Rakib Ahmed, chairman of the journalism department, who was attending Zahid at the hospital, said, "He received injuries in his skull. He is not out of danger.

"He is under supervision, and an MRI test will be performed on him soon. A CT scan has been done already and we are yet to get the report," he said.

According to witnesses, the motorcyclist was a student of the 45th batch of the philosophy department who fled the scene after the accident.

ASM Firoz Ul Hasan, proctor at the university, said he was going to visit Zahid at the hospital soon.

"Students need to be more careful while driving motorcycles," he said.
