“Please return my brother, dead or alive”

Md Rasel has been looking for his elder brother at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, holding a photo of him in hand.

Since 2:00am, he was rushing to private and government hospitals but still did not find his brother, Abul Hashem (45).

Rasel said that his brother has been working at BM Container Depot in Sitakunda for 15 years. He works as a covered-van driver at the depot. Hashem last spoke to his wife around 9:00pm last night (June 4, 2022). Since then, his mobile phone has been switched off.

When Rasel got the news of the fire at the depot, he went out in search of his brother. He has looked for his brother in all the hospitals in Chattogram where the burn victims were brought from the spot.

He was seen standing around 3:00pm today (June 5, 2022) in front of the emergency department of Chittagong Medical College Hospital.

Holding a picture of his brother, he told The Daily Star: "I can't find my brother anywhere. Please, return my brother, dead or alive."

He added that Abul Hashem lives with his family at Kumira in Sitakunda. He has two daughters and a son.

The fire broke out at the BM Container Depot around 9:30pm yesterday (June 4, 2022). The death toll in the fire accident has reached 49.

Till filing this report, the fire could not be brought under control – 19 hours after it broke out at the depot.
