“Will give DNA sample, at least then my brother’s body can be identified”

A sister’s search for younger brother continues since Ctg depot fire

Akhter Hossain (17) worked as a driver at BM Container Depot in Chattogram's Sitakunda but since the devastating fire his family cannot find him.

Akhter's elder sister Munni Akhter (28) has been frantically going to hospitals in search of her brother since yesterday (June 5, 2022) morning.

Munni was waiting in front of Chittagong Medical College Hospital to give DNA samples this (June 6, 2022) morning.

While talking to The Daily Star, Munni said, "He's my younger brother. I spoke to him every day. I also talked with him on the evening of the fire. But since then, I haven't been able to reach him. His mobile phone is switched off."

Akhter lived in the depot because of his work, though their house is in Banshkhali area of Chattogram.

Munni also said, "I don't know if my brother is dead or alive. I have visited eight to ten hospitals since yesterday… didn't find my brother anywhere."

From 8:00am today, a special team of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has started collecting DNA samples of the bodies to identify the victims of the fire at the container depot.

Munni said, "I'm waiting for giving my DNA sample. If my brother is dead, at least we can find his body."
