Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) members arrested two men yesterday for murdering a five-year-old girl who went missing from Chattogram's EPZ area 10 days ago.

The arrestees are Abir, 19, and his associate Hasib, 20, PBI Chattogram Superintendent of Police Naima Sultana told The Daily Star today.

Abir was a tenant of the house where the victim, Alina, lived.

SP Naima said that during primary interrogation, Abir said he and Hasib kidnapped Alina with an intention of demanding ransom, but at one stage strangled her to death.

He then cut up the body into six pieces and dumped it in the sea at Outer Ring Road area, the official said.

PBI took Abir while conducting a raid in the area today but could not find the body yet, she said.

They, however, found the victim's shoes, and clothes from near the sea in the Outer Ring Road area. The sharp weapon that was used by Abir was also seized from a house.

The body is believed to have been washed away in the tide, Naima added.

The child went missing on November 15 and her father Azharul filed a general diary (GD) with the EPZ Police Station.
