25-year-old lands in jail for raping toddler in Cox’s Bazar

A 25-year-old man was sent to jail on charges of raping a two-and-a-half-year-old girl in Ukhiya upazila of Cox's Bazar.

The alleged rapist, Dildar Mia (25), was produced before the Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate Court today (July 2, 2022) after the victim's father filed a case against him at Ukhiya Police Station, said Sheikh Mohammad Ali, officer-in-charge of the police station.

Later, the court ordered to send him to jail, the OC told our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent.

The police official said the incident happened on Thursday afternoon. The victim is currently undergoing treatment at Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

OC Sheikh Mohammad Ali and the child's father said the victim was playing near the house on Thursday afternoon. At that time, Dildar lured her with chocolates and took her at a nearby place.

Hearing her screams, the child's mother rushed to the spot and rescued her but Dildar Mia ran away.

Local UP Chairman Imrul Kayes Chowdhury told The Daily Star, on information, he reached the spot and sent the child to Ukhiya Upazila Health Complex quickly.

After giving first aid there, she was sent to the One-stop Crisis Centre (OCC) of Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital.

Later, members of village police and locals detained Dildar and handed him over to Ukhiya Police Station, the chairman added.
