3 journos beaten: AL leader, sons sued in Lalmonirhat

A case has been filed against a local Awami League leader and his three sons on charges of assaulting three journalists and breaking their cameras in ​​Panchagram area of Lalmonirhat.

One of victims, Anisur Rahman, Jamuna Television's Lalmonirhat correspondent, filed the case with Lalmonirhat Sadar Police Station around 2am today (August 13, 2022),

Officer-in-Charge of the police station, Ershadul Alam, confirmed the development to our local correspondent this morning.

The accused are Azizar Rahman Mandal (60), president of Panchagram Union unit of AL and his three sons Sultan Mandal (37), Shahjahan Ali Mandal (28) and Saheb Ali Mandal (35). Besides, 20-21 unknown supporters of Azizar  and his sons have been made accused in the case.

The other injured journalists are Prothom Alo's Lalmonirhat correspondent Abdur Rob Suzon and Ekhon Television's Lalmonirhat correspondent Mahfuzul Islam Bakul. All the three are undergoing treatment at Lalmonirhat Sadar Hospital.

OC Ershadul Alam said, "Azizar Rahman and his sons went into hiding after the incident. Police are trying to arrest the accused."

The journalists were beaten last evening (August 12, 2022) when they were collecting information about an alleged abduction by Sultan Mandal in Sakorpar village, the OC said.
