Accused in NSU scam case mysteriously goes missing: Family
Law enforcers unware of his whereabouts
Amin Md Hilaly (56), a real estate businessman, who is one of the accused in the North South University scam case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission, went missing yesterday (July 1, 2022), according to his family members.
Hilaly's younger brother Rafiqul Islam Hilaly told The Daily Star that his brother left his house in Uttara Sector 11 around 8:20 pm yesterday for his office in Sector 13.
It is a walking distance. He talked to the driver after leaving the house and asked him to contact him after 15 minutes. Nine minutes later, his mobile phone was found switched off, said Rafiqul.
Rafiqul added that he had contacted Rab, DB, PBI and the ACC who told him that they had not made any arrest.
On May 5, the ACC filed the case against six people, including five members of the NSU trustee board members and Amin Md Hilaly, the managing director of Ashaloy Housing and Developers Ltd, on charges of laundering about Tk 304 crore.
"My brother is accused in the NSU corruption case. It is alleged that my brother [Amin Md Hilaly] had bribed the NSU trustees Tk 304 crore…I am also the director of Ashaloy Housing and Developers. We didn't bribe them. We sold lands of Tk 500 crore to the NSU trustees," Rafiqul said, urging the law enforcement agencies to look into the matter of how his brother went missing.
Shah Mohammad Akhtaruzzaman Elias, officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station said Amin Md Hilaly's brother filed a general diary regarding his brother's missing. The matter is being investigated.
Four of the NSU board of trustees -- MA Kashem, Benajir Ahmed, Rehana Rahman and Mohammed Shajahan – were sent to jail after the High Court, on May 22, ordered police to arrest them.
