Dragged by car: ex-DU teacher Azhar sued over woman's death

A case has been filed with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with the death of a woman who was hit by a private car and dragged around for several hundred yards on Dhaka University campus yesterday.

The victim's brother, Zakir Hossain, filed the case early today, Shahbagh Police Station Sub-Inspector Kamrunnahar confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

Former Assistant Professor Azhar Jafar Shah of International Relations department of DU -- who was driving the car -- has been made accused in the case filed under the Road Transport Act, the SI added.

Around 3:00pm yesterday, a private car hit a woman named Rubina Akhter near TSC and dragged her several hundred yards around the campus, leaving her critically injured. She was immediately taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for treatment.

She passed away around 4:30pm at DMCH.
