Ex-army officer Hasinur Rahman now sued under DSA in Rajshahi

Former army officer Hasinur Rahman was sued in a case filed with the Cyber Tribunal in Rajshahi today (September 1, 2022).

Dablu Sarker, general secretary of Rajshahi city unit of Awami League filed the case under the Digital Security Act, reports our Rajshahi staff correspondent quoting the plaintiff's lawyer Mosabbirul Haque.

In the case, Sarker brought charges against the former army official for circulating propaganda against the state and different institutes of the government while providing interview to online news portal Netra News.

Taking the case into cognizance, the tribunal judge asked police to investigate the matter.

According to the case statement, the plaintiff read the accused spreading anti-state and anti-government propaganda on an online portal named "Khagrachari Darpan" on his mobile phone on August 25.

Later, he came to know that the accused was an ex-army personnel. The accused has lied about various important persons and reputed organisations of the country including the prime minister with the help of some fugitives abroad, the plaintiff alleged in the case.

With the latest one, a total of three cases have been filed against the former army official.

Earlier on August 30, Hasinur Rahman and an unidentified admin of Facebook page of online news portal Netra News were sued under Digital Security Act in Barishal.

Kazi Moniruddin Ahmmed Tarek, joint general secretary of Barishal Metropolitan City unit of Awami League, filed the case with Barishal Cyber Tribunal.

On August 24, 2022, Ilias Ahmed, a freedom fighter, who is also a lawyer at Rangpur Judge's Court and vice-president of the district AL, filed a case with Rangpur Cyber Tribunal under the Digital Security Act against Hasinur and Netra News -- a news portal -- for running a report on the DGFI which he claimed tarnished the country's image.
