Ex-DU teacher at DMCH under police custody, Rubina's autopsy done

Former Assistant Professor Azhar Jafar Shah of Dhaka University has been shown arrested in a case filed with Shahbagh Police Station in connection with the death of a woman who was hit by his private car and dragged around for several hundred yards on DU campus yesterday.

He is being treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital, under police custody, for injuries he suffered when students and pedestrians assaulted him after stopping the car.

Meanwhile, the body of Rubina Akhter, 45, the victim, was handed over to her family after an autopsy this afternoon.

Shahbagh Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noor Mohammad confirmed the developments to The Daily Star.

Earlier today, the victim's brother Zakir Hossain filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station.

The maximum punishment in the case filed under the Road Transport Act is five years' imprisonment and a fine of Tk 5 lakh.
