Freedom fighter, son attacked over land dispute

A freedom fighter and his son were attacked over a land dispute in Patuakhali's Bauphal upazila yesterday morning.

The injured are Abdul Majid, 76, and his son Monir, 43.

Locals said freedom fighter Majid had been involved in a long-standing land dispute with his neighbour Sagar Fakir.

Though an arbitration meeting was scheduled for yesterday morning, Sagar, his brother Robin and sisters Shampa and Champa attacked Majid with sharp weapons.

When his son Monir came to save him, they attacked him too, locals said, adding that the two were rescued and sent to Bauphal Upazila Health Complex.

Contacted, Sagar claimed, "I was not present at the time of the incident."

Al Mamun, OC of Bauphal Police Station, said legal action would be taken if a complaint is filed in this regard.
