A total of 108 leaders and activists of BNP, including its central executive committee member Nipun Roy Chowdhury, were sued today in connection with an Awami League-BNP clash in Keraniganj two days ago.

Sumon Miah, a local AL activist, filed the case with Keraniganj Model Police Station, Inspector (operation) Ashiqur Rahman told The Daily Star.

The clash that took place on Friday left around 50 people injured.

In the first information report, Sumon claimed that BNP men attacked the AL activists and its office.

"We have already arrested nine people for their involvement in the attack. We have sent them to a court seeking remand for interrogation," said Inspector Ashiqur.

Drive is underway to arrest the absconding FIR-listed accused, he added.

Around 10:45am on Friday, Jubo Dal, the youth wing of BNP, brought out a procession from Jinjira Chatgaon area and it was heading towards their Keraniganj party office to press home its 10-point demand, including the resignation of the government, and holding the national polls under a non-partisan government.

As the procession was passing by the local AL office, both the AL and BNP activists started shouting slogans. At one stage, a clash broke out between the two groups.

On information, police rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, BNP standing committee member, said, "We are the victims and the case was also filed against us."

Nipon Roy is now undergoing treatment in a Dhaka hospital with head injury, he said. "If police want, they can arrest her after going to the hospital," he added.
