Man kills wife with a hammer in Narayanganj

A man killed his wife with a hammer while their three children, including a four-month-old, at home following a dispute in Narayanganj's Sonargaon upazila last night.

Saidul Islam went into hiding after the incident, Sonargaon Police Station Inspector (investigation) Ahsan Ullah told our local correspondent.

Police recovered the body of Ankhi Akhter from her house at Changakandi village in the upazila around 10:00pm.

Ankhi, 32, was the mother of three children -- Arnab, 12, Siam, 10, and four-month-old Saifa.

Ankhi's father Ibrahim Pradhan said his daughter and Saidul got married around 15 years ago.

He alleged that Saidul used to beat his daughter.

"He [Saidul] hit her all over her face and body with the hammer. He did not even think about their children," he said.

Arnab and Siam said, "There was a fight between father and mother at night and we were in the next room."

Arnab and Siam said when they heard their mother's screams, they rushed and saw her hands and legs tied and their father beating her with a hammer. "When we shouted, our father pushed us and ran away," they said.

Locals took Ankhi to Sonargaon Upazila Health Complex where doctors declared him dead.

The victim's father filed a murder case with the local police station.

Inspector Ahsan Ullah said they are trying to arrest the accused.
