Minor found hanging from 8th floor window grille

A minor domestic worker was found hanging from the window grille of a flat at Eskaton yesterday evening.

The dead was identified as Amena, 13, from Jhenidah. She had been working at a government official's house for a year and half, police said. 

Speaking to The Daily Star, Jahangir Alam, sub-inspector of Hatirjheel Police Station, said Amena's body was found hanging with a scarf around the neck, from the window grille on the eighth floor of the building.

He said they the flat belongs to a government official named Moniruzzaman. His details were not available immediately. 

Jahangir added that Moniruzzaman's wife and children were outside and Amena was home alone at the time of the incident. 

"They came back and found her hanging."

Abdur Rashid, officer-in-charge of the station, told The Daily Star that the owner of the flat said Amena died by suicide. 

"We sent the body to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for autopsy and will take steps based on the report."
