Murder case against Arav Khan: 4 prosecution witnesses give depositions

Four more prosecution witnesses gave their depositions before a Dhaka court today against Robiul Islam alias Arav Khan and nine others in a case filed over the killing of Special Branch (SB) Inspector Mamun Imran Khan in July 2018.

The witnesses are: Arifur Rahman, an inspector of Detective Branch of police; DB Sub-Inspectors Shah Alam and Md Rubel Hossain and its Assistant Sub-Inspector Md Enamul.

Judge Faisal Atiq Bin Kader of Dhaka's First Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge's Court recorded their statements at the courtroom.

Later, defence for all the accused cross-examined the witnesses on different points.

The court then fixed June 18 for the next hearing of the case.

In his statement, Md Enamul told the court that he seized a motorbike, which the victim used to go to the place of occurrence at Banani. During that time, three other witnesses were present.

Earlier, the court recorded statements of six witnesses, including the complainant of the case.

On April 11 of 2019, DB Inspector Sheikh Mahbubur Rahman, also the investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against Arav Khan and nine others.

The other accused are the victim's friend Rahmat Ullah, Arav Khan, his wife Suraiya Akhter Keya, Swapan Sarkar, Didar Pathan, Mizan Sheikh, Atiq Hassan, Sarwar Hossain, Meherunnisa alias Swarna and Faria binte Maisa.

Of them, Arav Khan and his wife are on the run while eight others are now in jail. The court framed charges against the accused on November 25 of 2021.

On May 9 this year, another Dhaka court sentenced Arav Khan to 10 years' rigorous imprisonment in an arms case filed against him in January 2015.

Arav Khan, who runs a jewellery store in Dubai, has an Interpol red alert against him.
