Road accident in Mymensingh's Trishal: Truck driver arrested

Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) arrested the truck driver responsible for the accident that led to the death of three persons, including a pregnant woman, after they were hit by the truck on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway at Trishal in Mymensingh on July 16, 2022.

The arrestee was identified as Raju Ahmed Shipon and he was held from Dhaka's Savar yesterday (July 18, 2022).

Khandaker Al Moin, Rab's media wing director, confirmed the development to The Daily Star.

There will be a press briefing in this regard today (July 19, 2022) at Rab Media Centre, he added.

In a tragic event that unfolded in Trishal area, an eight-months-pregnant woman gave birth to a baby girl on July 16, before succumbing to her injuries after a truck ran her over while she was crossing a road.

Two others – the woman's husband and daughter – were also dead in the accident.

The newborn, however, survived miraculously.

The incident happened at the Court Building area on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway when the family were on their way to a hospital. A truck ran them over when they were crossing the road, leaving them dead on the spot.

The impact apparently pushed the baby out of the mother's womb, and was delivered on the spot.

The truck was seized by the police but its driver managed to flee.
