A local union parishad leader of ruling Awami League has been relieved from post over his alleged involvement in the incident of assaulting the acting principal of Mirzapur United Degree College in Narail on June 18.

Narail Sadar upazila unit Awami League, in a notice issued yesterday (July 1, 2022), relieved Md Akhtar Hossain Kinku from his post as the president of Bichali Union unit AL, reports our Bagerhat correspondent quoting Achin Kumar Chakraborty, president of Sadar upazila unit AL.

Akhtar Hossain is also an assistant professor of the college.A show-cause notice was also served to him asking him to present his statement before the Sadar upazila unit AL within three days.

The notice said a situation to instigate communal tension was created on June 18, 2022 over the Facebook status of a student of Mirzapur United Degree College.

"You are a teacher of the college and it was seen in the video footage that you were present there. The acting Principal Swapan Kumar Biswas was forced to wear garland of shoes around his neck in your presence. This was shameful and tantamount to humiliating all other teachers of the society. Several news media ran reports about your involvement in the incident. You cannot avoid that liability. We think that you have failed to serve as the president of the union AL," read the notice.

Meanwhile, Moshiar Rahman, vice-president of the Bichali Union unit AL, has been given the responsibility to discharge duties as the president of the union unit.

On June 18, students and locals forced Swapan Kumar Biswas, acting principal of Mirzapur United Degree College, to wear a garland of shoes around his neck in Narail Sadar upazila.

The incident came to light after a video showing the teacher being forced to wear a garland of shoes around his neck went viral on social media.
