Two arrested for missing child’s murder in Chattogram

The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) yesterday arrested two men for murdering a five-year-old girl who went missing from Chattogram's EPZ area 10 days ago.

The arrestees are Abir Ali, 19, and his associate Md Hasib, 20, PBI Chattogram Superintendent of Police Naima Sultana told The Daily Star.

Abir was a tenant of the house where the victim, Alina Islam Ayat, lived.

During primary interrogation, Abir said he and Hasib kidnapped Ayat with an intention of demanding ransom, but at one stage strangled her to death.

He then cut up the body into six pieces and dumped it in the sea at the Outer Ring Road area, the SP said.

PBI officials took Abir while conducting a raid in the area yesterday but could not find the body yet.

They, however, found the victim's shoes, and clothes near the sea in the Outer Ring Road area. The sharp weapon that was used by Abir was also recovered.

The body is believed to have been washed away in the tide, Naima added.

Inspector Elias Khan of PBI Ctg metro unit told The Daily Star that Abir was able chalk out the murder plan from watching episodes of the Indian tv drama series 'Crime Patrol'.

He carried out the plan step by step that led to him destroying the evidence, Elias added.

On November 15, the child went missing and her father Sohel Rana later filed a general diary with the EPZ Police Station.
