Following two reports published by The Daily Star, a lawyer of the High Court yesterday filed a writ petition seeking the court's directive on authorities concerned regarding a family's efforts to get one of their members recognised as a martyred freedom fighter.

Mohammad Baki Hossain Mridha filed the petition with the HC bench of Justice Kamrul Kader and Justice Mohammad Ali, the lawyer told The Daily Star.

The petition sought directives for the ministry concerned to find out the real freedom fighters by forming a search committee.

The hearing on the petition may be held this week, he added.

From 1974 to 2022, the family members of Syed Hafizur Rahman, a martyred guerrilla, applied nine times to the Jatiya Muktijuddha Council and the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs to recognise him as a martyred freedom fighter.

But for unknown reasons, their applications were rejected every time.

On October 24 and 31 last year, The Daily Star published two reports about the struggles of the family titled "Half a century gone chasing recognition" and "Denied again".
