Hasina, Modi took Dhaka-Delhi ties to new heights: Dipu Moni

Education Minister Dipu Moni yesterday said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and her Indian counterpart Narendra Modi have taken the relationship between the two countries to new heights.

"I hope in G-20, they (Hasina and Modi) will play a very positive role in taking forward the agenda that will help fulfil the aspirations of people of this region," Dipu Moni said after inaugurating the 10th Bangladesh Book Fair in Kolkata.

On December 1, India formally assumed the Presidency of G-20 grouping for the period of one year, reports our New Delhi correspondent.

The minister said poverty, terrorism and illiteracy are common enemies of Bangladesh and India. "We have to fight all these together. In South Asia, we are trying to do that. Our leaders are leading us in that direction," she added.

Dipu Moni said peace is on the top of the agenda for all at present and both the prime ministers -- Hasina and Modi -- will play a very constructive role in this regard in G-20 as well.

"The ties between India and Bangladesh were consolidated and cemented by the sacrifices by both our people made during the War of Liberation," she said.
