Macron writes to Hasina on exhibit of Marc Riboud’s Liberation War photos

French President Emmanuel Macron has written a letter expressing his elation to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina regarding the exhibition featuring Liberation War photos by renowned French photographer Marc Riboud.

The solo photo exhibition, titled "Bangladesh 1971: Mourning and Morning" by Marc Riboud was launched at the Liberation War Museum in Dhaka on October 16.

The pictures by the artist "soberly illustrate, with great humanity, the events that led to the independence of Bangladesh," reads the English translation of the letter originally written in French.

Riboud had spent a month with freedom fighters and was one of the very first to enter Dhaka, freed on December 16, 1971, the letter dated October 18, adds.

These unique pictures show the admirable courage of Bangladeshis defending their freedom, their language, their culture, responding to the call of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Macron also writes.

"They also witness the interest of France and French people for a determined nation and a country full of promises as Andre Malraux expressed right after the declaration of independence," reads the letter.

Macron also wrote that he was pleased that this exhibition contributes to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and Bangladesh, as well as never disproven relationship of trust and friendship.

"Please accept Madam Prime Minister, the assurance of my highest esteem," the French president concluded.
