Hawkers won’t be allowed beside roads marked red from next week: Taposh

Hawkers won't be allowed to set up makeshift stalls on footpaths of roads that will be marked red under Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) areas from next week.

DSCC Mayor Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh announced this today (September 7, 2022) while talking to reporters after a foundation stone-laying programme of the 10-storey Bangabandhu Avenue Hawkers Market in Dhaka's Gulistan.

The DSCC mayor further said there will be roads with yellow and green markings where hawkers will be able to operate their business at particular times of the day and on different days.

"We will rehabilitate them (hawkers) in the market as well as mark important roads as red where hawkers won't be allowed to run their businesses from next week," said Taposh.

He also said they will start their drive to remove hawkers from roads marked red from next week.

An official of DSCC said their work to mark the roads is ongoing.
