91 Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims died in Saudi Arabia till July 8

A total of 91 Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims died in Saudi Arabia till July 8.

Of the total deceased, 69 are male and 22 are female, according to the hajj portal of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of Bangladesh.

Most of them died in Makkah, as per the ministry's everyday bulletin on the hajj.

Seventy-five pilgrims died in Makkah, five in Madina, seven in Mina, two in Arafah and one each in Jeddah and Mujdalifa, it said.

Seventy of them were aged between 50 and 71, according to the hajj portal.

This year, the holy hajj was observed on June 28.

The highest number of Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims died in Saudi Arabia this year, according to the Hajj Agencies Association of Bangladesh (HAAB).

As this year the hajj was performed amid intense heat, seven Bangladeshi pilgrims died on June 29 due to heat stroke, different media of Bangladesh and around the world said.

HAAB President M Shahadat Hossain Taslim, who is visiting Saudi Arabia to perform hajj, also confirmed this information.

The hajj pilgrims who die in Saudi Arabia are usually buried there.

According to the information of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, this year 1,22,884 people went to Saudi Arabia by 325 flights of Biman, Saudia and Flynas airlines.

The Bangladeshi hajj pilgrims started to return home on July 3.
