Apex court judge passes away before taking oath

Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan, who was recently elevated to the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court, died of Covid-19 yesterday.

He breathed his last around 6:15am at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University. He was 67.

Justice Ahasan left behind his wife, a son and a host of admirers to mourn his death, said SC Spokesperson Md Saifur Rahman.

Four HC judges were elevated to the division on January 9. Among them, three took oath that day, but Justice Ahasan was unable to do so due to his illness.

Meanwhile, Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique has expressed deep shock over the death.

Law Minister Anisul Huq, Fisheries and Livestock Minister SM Rezaul Karim and Attorney General AM Amin Uddin, also condoled the death.

His janaza was held at 11:00am yesterday at SCBA premises. He will be buried at Barishal Muslim Graveyard.
