Bangladeshis can also become citizens of 44 countries

Bangladeshis will also be able to acquire citizenship in 44 countries, including Brazil and Argentina, as the Cabinet passed a proposal in this regard today.

The Security Service Division of the home ministry placed the proposal over "dual citizenship" in Bangladesh and these countries, said Cabinet Secretary Mahbub Hossain at a briefing at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The newly added countries are Egypt, South Africa, Kenya, Algeria, Sudan, Morocco, Ghana, Rwanda, Burundi, Tunisia, Sierra Leone, Libya, Congo, Liberia, Central African Republic, Eritrea, The Gambia, Botswana, and Mauritius of the African continent.

Twelve countries of South America -- Brazil, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Suriname, Argentina, Peru, Ecuador, Chile, Uruguay and Guyana -- are also on the list.

Besides, Bangladeshis can get citizenship in Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Bahama, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, Dominica, Saint Lucia, Barbados, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Saint Kitts and Nevis and Fiji.

Right now, Bangladeshis can become citizens of 57 countries besides their country of birth.
