Mukul Bose passes away

Awami League (AL) Advisory Council member Mukul Bose passed away yesterday morning while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Chennai, India.

Bose breathed his last at Apollo hospital at 5:20am, aged 68," said a press release signed by AL office secretary Biplab Barua.

He left behind his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives, friends and well-wishers.

Bose was hospitalised in Dhaka on May 16 after he became seriously ill. The next day, he was shifted to the coronary unit of Square Hospital and given life support.

Later, he was flown to Chennai for better treatment.

Along with Obaidul Quader and Syed Ashraful Islam, Bose was also AL joint general secretary during the state of emergency in 2007.

He was elected as party's Advisory Council member on January 1, 2017.

Prime Minister and AL President Sheikh Hasina and President Abdul Hamid expressed profound shock at his demise.

Besides, AL General Secretary and Road, Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, Information Minister Hasan Mahmud, Liberation War Affairs Minister AKM Mozammel Haque, Agriculture Minister Dr Muhammad Abdur Razzaque, Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Law Minister Anisul Huq, Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal, LGRD Minister Md Tajul Islam, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen and Health Minister Zahid Maleque expressed condolence at the death.
