Prof Qayyum remembered at RU

The psychology department of Rajshahi University organised a meeting at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Senate Bhaban yesterday, to commemorate Shaheed Mir Abdul Qayyum.

Quayum's daughter and chairman of the department Prof Mahbuba Kaniz Keya presided over the meeting.

Pakistani army abducted Abdul Quayum, a professor of psychology, from his Ghoramara residence in Rajshahi city on November 25, 1971, and killed him.

Prof Sanat Kumar Saha said the killers wrote a black chapter in history by killing Quayum.

Attending as chief guest, RU VC Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar said Qayyum was vocal about freedom and students' right to get involved in politics.

Wreaths were placed at the martyred intellectuals' memorial of the university, and a documentary film on Qayyum's life was screened.
