Tk 400 for renting motorbike to cross Padma Bridge

It costs Tk 400 (Tk 200 per head) to rent a motorbike to cross the Padma Bridge. Many motorbikes, however, were seen carrying more than two people on the Padma Bridge.

There was a pressure of motorbikes since vehicles started plying the Padma Bridge at 5:50am today (June 26, 2022). The toll authorities have been struggling with the pressure of too many motorbikes on the first day.

A rented motorbike has to pay Tk 100 at Mawa toll plaza in Munshiganj and Tk 100 at the Jazira toll plaza in Shariatpur.  

Motorcycle riders were seen waiting for passengers before both Mawa toll plaza and the toll plaza on Naodoba side of Shariatpur.

Many of the bikes were seen parked on the main bridge – people were taking photos. Several of them were violating the speed limit.

Kamal Hossain, a shopkeeper, said, "I rented a bike from Naodoba. No one wants to take passengers under Tk 200 per head. I agreed to cross the Padma Bridge and reach Mawa with my wife and child. We stopped on the bridge and took pictures. The bridge looks very beautiful. I will come back in the afternoon after staying at a relative's house in Mawa."

Jamal Hossain, a private employee, said he has to reach Shariatpur for urgent work. But the motorbikes were demanding Tk 200 per passenger.
