The number of vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge on the second day has reduced significantly after the authorities banned motorcycles from crossing the bridge from 6:00 am today (June 27, 2022).

A total total of 4,468 vehicles crossed the Padma Bridge in eight hours (from 6:00am to 2:00pm) today, which was 15,200 in the same time yesterday (Sunday), after the bridge was opened to traffic.

The authorities collected Tk 58,51,900 toll in eight hours today which was Tk 82,19,000 the same time yesterday.

"There was a significant fall in the number of vehicles on the bridge due to the ban on motorbikes," an official of Bangladesh Bridge Authority told The Daily Star.

As thousands of bikers waited in line to cross the Padma Bridge, the toll plaza staff became overwhelmed, and two bikers also lost their lives in an accident on the bridge yesterday. Later, the Bridges Division decided to stop motorbikes from using the bridge beginning at 6:00 am today.

More than 60 percent of 15,200 vehicles crossed the bridge between 6:00am to 2:00pm yesterday were motorcycles.
