153 BNP men get HC bail

A total of 153 local BNP leaders and activists from Munshiganj got six weeks' anticipatory bail from the High Court today (September 28, 2022) in a case filed on charges of vandalising vehicles, blasting bombs, and obstructing police in discharging duties.

The bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Khairul Alam granted the anticipatory bails after hearing 20 separate petitions filed by the accused BNP men seeking bail in the case.

The HC bench also asked the accused to surrender before the lower court concerned in six weeks in connection with the case.

Advocate Md Kamal Hossain, a lawyer for 122 accused petitioners, told The Daily Star that police filed the case with Munshiganj Sadar Police Station on September 22 against the BNP men under the same charges during the ongoing movement against the government on September 21.

The case was filed on false charges in order to harass the accused as they are BNP leaders and activists even though ruling Awami League people have attacked and beat them during their agitation programmes, he added.
