BNP MPs' resignation: by-polls to 5 constituencies on February 1

By-polls to the five parliamentary seats, which fell vacant following the resignation of BNP lawmakers, will be held on February 1 next year.

Election Commission Secretary Md Jahangir Alam announced the election schedule today after a meeting at the EC office in Dhaka's Agargaon area.

The candidates have to submit nomination papers by January 5. The voting will be held through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), he said.

On December 10, the BNP lawmakers announced that they would resign from parliament. The following day, five of the seven BNP lawmakers submitted their resignation to Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

The five MPs are Md Zahidur Rahman, Thakurgaon-3; Md Mosharof Hosen, Bogura-4; Gulam Mohammad Siraj, Bogura-6; Md Aminul Islam, Chapainawabganj-2 and Rumeen Farhana from a seat reserved for women.
