Case filed against 32 BCL men over clash with JCD

Thirty-two leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra league, including its Vice-President Tilottama Sikder, have been sued on charges of attacking Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal men at High Court area in the capital on May 26.

Mansura Alam, a member of Dhaka University JCD convening committee, filed the case with court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shanto Islam Mallik today (May 29, 2022), Syed Nazrul Islam, one of her lawyers, told our DU correspondent.

After recording the complainant's statement, the magistrate directed the officer-in-charge of Shahbagh Police Station to begin investigation and submit a probe report before the court by June 26, he said.

Attempted murder charges have also been brought in the case against the accused, added the lawyer.

According to the case documents, BCL men on Thursday (May 26) attacked JCD men with machetes, sticks and other local weapons while they were trying to enter into DU campus from High court intersection for holding their schedule programme.

Talking to this correspondent, Shahbagh OC Moudut Hawlader said, "We are not informed about the case. After getting the court's order, we will investigate it."
