BNP today (September 28, 2022) said it will reveal how a neutral government, once it is installed, will oversee the next parliamentary election when the time comes.

Furthermore, the party will soon unveil its strategy to mount pressure on the government for an election under a non-partisan, interim government.

Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, the party's secretary general, made the remark while addressing a press conference at party chairperson Khaleda Zia's Gulshan office.

BNP announced to hold public rallies in 10 divisional cities from October 8, to continue the ongoing movement.

Besides, the party will organise two mourning rallies in all divisional cities and district towns on October 6 and 10, respectively, for five leaders of BNP and its associate bodies, who were killed during the movement.

After holding 14 rallies in the capital, BNP's standing committee worked out the fresh programmes at a committee meeting on Monday night.

Fakhrul said the meeting also decided to hold divisional rallies to protest the killings and filing of cases against party leaders and activists, and demand the release of Khaleda Zia.

As per the schedules, it will organise a rally on October 8 in Chattogram, October 15 in Mymensingh, October 22 in Khulna, October 29 in Rangpur, November 5 in Barishal, November 12 in Faridpur, November 19 in Sylhet, November 26 in Cumilla, December 3 in Rajshahi and December 10 in Dhaka.

The BNP leader said that they want to mobilise public opinion and want people to join the programmes. "We want to mount pressure on the government [to accept our demands] through a strong mass movement, with active participation of the people."

Earlier, BNP announced to hold 16 rallies in the capital to intensify its anti-government movement, and the party arranged 14 rallies from September 10 to September 27. But the party suspended Lalbagh rally, while another rally was foiled in Pallabi by law enforcers.

BNP has been organising demonstrations and rallies across the country since August 22, protesting the price hikes of daily essentials and fuel.

He said Monday's meeting strongly condemned and protested the decision to involve a third party in the procurement process of Russian wheat, in violation of the Public Sector Procurement Act. It also slammed authorities for importing the essential at a price higher than market price.

Fakhrul said the meeting also condemned the agreement to drill three gas-wells in Bhola with Russian company Gazprom at exorbitant price.

He alleged that the main reason to sign agreements with foreign companies, without giving any opportunity to Bapex and Petrobangla, is nothing but corruption.

BNP has been organising demonstrations and rallies across the country since August 22, protesting the price hike of daily essentials and fuel.

Fakhrul alleged that since August 10, five of its leaders and activists have been killed, 2,768 injured and 294 arrested.

Fakhrul also claimed that around 75 "false" cases have been filed against 25,000 leaders and activists, naming 5,470 leaders and activists.

Condemning the attack on Chhatra Dal leaders at Dhaka University, the BNP leader demanded the resignation of the vice-chancellor, as he failed to ensure the security of students.
