Pro-BNP, AL-backed lawyers stage demo, counter-demo on SC premises

Pro-BNP and pro-Awami League lawyers today staged demonstration and counter-demonstration on the Supreme Court premises on separate issues.

Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Ainjibi Forum, a body of pro-BNP lawyers, brought out a procession in protest against what they said the attack on pro-BNP lawyers recently at a Dhaka court during recording statements from witnesses in a corruption case against BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Zubaida Rahman.

The procession circled the High Court Mazar Gate, Jatiya Eidgah Maidan, Kadom Foara near Jatiya Press Club and held a meeting at the main gate of the SC.

Former SCBA Secretary AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, BJAF's Secretary General Kayser Kamal, its SC unit's General Secretary Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal, among others, spoke on the occasion.

Meanwhile, ruling Awami League backed lawyers' organisation -- Bangabandhu Awami Ainjibi Parishad – brought out a procession and held a "peace meeting '' on the SCBA office premises protesting the "anarchy" by pro-BNP lawyers.

SCBA Secretary Md Abdun Nur Dulal spoke at the programme where its President Md Momtaz Uddin Fakir and Additional Attorney General SM Munir were also present.
