The operations of tourist ships on the Teknaf-St Martin's Island route will restart tomorrow after four months' halt.

Following directives of the Ministry of Shipping, the Cox's Bazar district administration has permitted the movement of tourist ships after holding a meeting with the authorities concerned, reports our Cox's Bazar staff correspondent.

Due to the government ban for about four and a half months, the movement of tourist ships on that route was halted.

On September 29 last year, Tourism Secretary Mokammel Hossain addressed a seminar in Cox's Bazar, where he announced the suspension of shipping on the St Martin-Teknaf waterway, citing the navigability crisis of the Naf river and the awakening of several sand dunes.

He also said the movement of ships on this waterway will remain closed until further notice.
