Vice Prime Minister of the Government of Mauritius Dr Mohammad Anwar Hasnu and Bangladesh High Commissioner Rezina Ahmed distributed the food items among the underprivileged families.

Bangladesh High Commission in Port Louis, Mauritius has distributed Bangladeshi food items among 35 underprivileged families, marking the month of mourning.

Bags containing food items were distributed among the families at Naw-N-Sha Service, Valipito, in compliance with the sanitary protocol imposed by the Government of Mauritius for Covid-19.

Vice Prime Minister of the Government of Mauritius and Minister of Local Government and Disaster Management Dr Mohammad Anwar Hasnu was present there as the chief guest.

At the outset, Vice Prime Minister Dr Hasnu paid his homage to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and members of his family, who were brutally murdered on the night of August 15, 1975.

Applauding the initiative of Bangladesh High Commission, Dr Hasnu said that the humanitarian assistance would help the families during this pandemic.

In the beginning, a special munajat was offered for the Father of the Nation and all the members of his family, wishing good health and longevity for Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and happiness, peace and prosperity of the people of Bangladesh and Mauritius.

Bangladesh High Commissioner Rezina Ahmed paid her deepest tribute to Bangabandhu and all the family members, who were assassinated with him.

She said, "May the Almighty accept the prayers of the families, who received the humanitarian assistance offered in honour of the martyred."

She conveyed the mission's gratefulness to the general public of Mauritius, who often offer food to Bangladeshi expatriate workers in the time of need. She hoped that such endeavours would strengthen the existing bondage between the people of the two countries.

The programme was attended by the prominent personalities from Mauritius and members of Bangladesh community.
