The United Arab Emirates wants to recruit more skilled migrant workers from Bangladesh.

The gulf country showed interest during a bilateral meeting today between Expatriates' Welfare Minister Imran Ahmad and UAE Minister for Human Resources and Emiratisation Abdurrahman Abdulmannan alAwar in Dubai, says an expatriates' welfare ministry press release.

During the meeting, the gulf country showed interest in hiring professionals, technologists, nurses and caregivers from Bangladesh, said the release.

Besides, both sides have agreed to hold the next meeting of the Joint Technical Committee soon, it said.

Furthermore, the countries agreed to work on recognising skills certificates of Bangladeshi migrant workers.

Imran Ahmad is on a three-day (February 13-15) visit to the gulf country to attend World Government Summit-2023, the release adds.

During his visit, the Bangladesh expatriates' welfare minister also attended a discussion between labour-sending and labour-recipient countries on Tuesday.

At that meeting, he spoke on Bangladesh government's different initiatives in the labour migration sector.

UAE is a major destination for Bangladeshi migrant workers.
